Few years ago, Karen's doctor told her she was suffering of bipolar disorder. Little by little Adams didn't know how to help her and decided to leave her alone.
At that time, she probably may started to have death wish. 
In fact she might stopped her treatment and started to drink a lot. Day after day, her life started to look like a real hell losing all  : her lover Adams, her job, her friends. She finally might be suffering from mental disorder , alcoholism and loneliness that she decided to end with life to  commit suicide.
As usual, she may drink a whole bottle of whisky and took all the medecine she had at home and lay down on her sofa listening to her favorite song which probably made her remember of good memories.
